Hello lovely people! I mentioned in a post earlier last week that I scored a gorgeous Ralph Lauren dress at the flea market for $10 and here is the proof! I’m wearing it more as a skirt because I’ve been coveting maxi skirts lately and I felt like I needed to try the look myself now that I can! Also, maxi dresses just feel way to formal to me so I’ll probably be styling this more as a skirt the majority of the time anyway.
Cropped Sweater – Sway in Berkeley
Wrap Maxi Dress – Ralph Lauren vintage from the Ashby Flea Market $10
Necklace – Alaskan Jade – a gift from Pat’s mom Nancy
Socks – Black Thigh High from AA
Shoes – Brown Leather Bass Maryjane Wedges
Clearly I was only able to get a few pics of this outfit. I spent an hour or so at Pat’s parents on Sunday testing out my new camera. I took lots of photos of his mom’s roses and lemon tree and I snapped a few of these outfit pics with the self timer real quick too! I didn’t have a tripod available so I was just setting the camera precariously against things and it was making me nervous. So a couple pics is all you get! I am however very proud of myself for posting outfit pics for the first time all by myself!
This also marks the fourth installment in my Dress Project! At least I’m making a little dent in my closet!
I had lunch yesterday with my boyfriend Pat and his sister Katie. She brought along her new baby Harper (a girl) and so it was a lot of fun playing and holding her while we waited for our food. Check out the amazing photo below that Pat took with his iPhone.
I spent the afternoon hosting Michael Franti at Amoeba Berkeley. I’m not the biggest fan of his music but his energy and message are amazing! He is so present and charming, interacting with him on a professional and personal level was a pleasure. I had one of those moments when I really value the fact that I’ve met someone special. It was really a treat!
And here’s what I wore!
Dress – Dosa – Here is another item that I got from the clothing swap. I really made out good on that one!
Sweater – American Apparel – X-Mas gift from my mommy
Boots -Those same boots I keep wearing from AV Clubwear
Scarf -I won my scarf on a giveaway at Calivintage!
Jewelry – Fused glass necklace I made by fusing two pieces of glass together after “painting” a spine onto the glass with gold leaf. Then I attached a chain that I took off of another item of clothing that I don’t wear anymore. The Clipper Ship Locket is from the Renegade Craft Fair in SF last Summer and I wear it all the time.
This is also the third installment in my Dress Project. There are 4 dresses in my swap picks So if you are following along to see how I will wear all of my (40) dresses this year please keep your eyes peeled. I’ll be wearing some of my other dresses outside of the 30 for 30 on the weekends!
And I’ll leave you with this amazing picture Pat took at lunch of me with the Demon Baby! I seriously can’t stop laughing when I see this. Amazing no?
Oh today was fun! First Pat and I went to our favorite Ethiopian restaurant for breakfast then stopped by this sweet antique/junk shop around the corner from our house and did my outfit photos there. Then we walked on down to Downtown Berkeley to see a movie. Blue Valentine. It was a really great film and I highly recommend it, but be prepared for some serious tears. We got our favorite FroYo before the film and after the film we headed up to CREAM on Telegraph for $1.50 ice cream sandwiches. Date day with my Mister! Yay me!
Anyway, here are the photos for my first 30 for 30 outfit! I had fun putting this outfit together. I wanted to do something simple for my first post and since it was 80 degrees in Oakland/Berkeley today I needed to stay cool. So this pretty dress (#2 in my Dress Project Series!) and gold TOMS were about all I needed. I love the lace slip detail on this dress – a seriously awesome score from the clothing swap a few weeks ago! I tend to always get a little chill so I threw on the cardi to cover my arms a bit. Oh and the pigtails were really fun. Simple and sweet, that’s all I need!
Dress – Snak – From a clothing swap I hosted a few weeks ago. SCORE!
Cardigan – Banana Republic – Also from the clothing swap!
Shoes – Gold Glitter TOMS – X-Mas Gift from my Mom
Necklace – Pirate Ship Locket – From the Renegade Craft Fair in SF last summer
Earrings – Hand made by my friend Nina
Sunglasses – Urban Outfitters in Columbus,Ohio
Backpack – Gentle Fawn’s Rebel Without a Purse Backpack frm Modcloth – This was a X-Mas gift from Pat’s Mom Nancy
Take a look at this photo of our amazing breakfast at Cafe Collucci in North Oakland! SO YUM!
The weather is just gorgeous here. Such a change from the freezing, snowy and icy weather we left in Ohio last week. I’ll be posting photos from our trip to Ohio here in the next day or two so be sure to check back. Pat got some really great pictures of the ice coating pretty much everything!
Until tomorrow dearies!

What’s in your closet? I’ve taken stock of my closet and discovered that I own more than 30 dresses! So I’m starting The Dress Project where I will be wearing all the dresses I own and writing about them here. After being a part of Kendi’s 30 for 30 challenge in November I’ve thought long and hard about all the unused clothing I have. I happen to have a very well stocked closet, but most of it doesn’t see the light of day! Unacceptable! This will be challenging for me because some of my dresses haven’t been worn in years. The unworn dresses are primarily vintage dresses that need repairing, are for fancier events or they are items I just simply haven’t had time to figure out how to style just yet. I’ve gotten some as gifts, borrowed some from my mom’s closet years ago or bought them on a whim. I hate seeing them just sit there and the dress section in my closet just keeps growing and growing!
So, what I would like to do is set a goal to wear all the dresses in my closet within the next year. I know I know, a year is so long! Too long maybe, but after really accessing what my options are and how much time I have available to do outfit posts, I believe a year is exactly the right amount of time I need to make this project work. However, I won’t be heartbroken if I end up wearing and posting about all the dresses before the year is up. Maybe it will only take me a couple of months!
I’ve begun a closet overhaul and purge as one of my 2011 goals and on January 22 I’ll be holding a Naked Lady Party at my house so that my friends can help me purge my closet of unwanted/unworn items. A few dresses will be going away in this purge so I’ll have a less to work into the Dress Project. However, a few NEW dresses might make it into my wardrobe that day as well. The hope is that I purge items I won’t wear and only gain items that fill gaps in my wardrobe, so maybe I won’t actually add any dresses after-all. I guess I’ll find out on the 22nd!
- Wear all of my dresses at least once within the next year – including any new dresses I acquire.
- Repair any damage to the dresses or make alterations to make any unwearable dresses, well, wearable.
- Post photos of the dresses as I wear them – write about what I love about each dress and any back history about how it came into my hands.
- Assess what worked and didn’t work and sell, donate, or share any dresses that I feel are not for me.
And of course I would like to start the Dress Project now! Pat’s wonderful mother Nancy got me a really great Modcloth dress for Xmas that I’ve wanted to wear all week. She really did a fantastic job picking out this dress – I love it! It’s different from anything else I have and yet totally fits in with everything in my closet. I had no problems styling it at all and really LOVE the look I came up with.
Dress – Navy/Cream – Modcloth
Belt – Brown Leather – Vintage
Tights – Grey Footless
Socks – Black Thigh High – American Apparel
Boots – Brown Suede – Rebels
Pat, My Love, has been taking my photos on his iPhone but we are hunting for a new camera. Possibly a DSLR. I am so excited! I can’t wait to learn how to use a real camera and start getting some really fantastic shots (it will also help me with my potential Etsy shop when I open it). Thank you again to Pat for being such a good sport and taking photos for me.
What about you guys – Do you have a lot of unworn dresses in your closet too? Is there an item you wish you wore more often yet just sits in your closet?
